Cinema, too, is undoubtedly a huge affair. If art indeed imitates life, then we are grateful for some evolved representations of weddings in Indian cinema. \u00a0It used to be that wedding scenes would inevitably feature a sentimental scene involving a bride&#8217;s crying while bidding farewell to her parents, before setting off for her new household. \u00a0What we have and showcase here are movies with cool, offbeat, and unforgettable weddings.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara<\/em>, 2011 (Hindi)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1320\" height=\"743\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MqCJdSKQ7qA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Apart from its picturesque settings and brilliant characters, ZNMD also has a beautiful destination wedding of sorts at\u00a0the end. While the entire ceremony was performed to the catchy and symbolically placed <em>Sooraj ki baahon mein<\/em> number, the venue boasts of elaborate flower arrangements and other beautifications. Shot in a lovely\u00a0European countryside kind-of-location, it turns out to be a dreamy, outdoor wedding worth re-creating in real life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Alaipayuthey<\/em>, 2000 (Tamil)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1320\" height=\"743\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HJSH5x2Pj7s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>For several &#8217;90s kids like me, <em>Alaipayuthey<\/em> is not only fresh in memory for its delightful music and the amazing chemistry between Madhavan and Shalini, but also for the wedding scene. Karthik\u00a0and Shakti tying the knot in a temple in their friends&#8217; presence marked the entry of a\u00a0new era\u00a0in the picturization of weddings in Tamil cinema. There\u2019s no song-and-dance routine\u00a0that follows the ceremony, only\u00a0A.R. Rahman&#8217;s\u00a0famous <em>Maangalyam Thandunaneyna\u00a0<\/em>cover. The scene beautifully captures the daring spirits of two smitten youngsters, who decide to take things in their own hands. If you ask me, it\u00a0is pretty cool. <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Varudu<\/em>, 2010 (Telugu)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1320\" height=\"743\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YA34sTdwnlw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The wedding in this movie takes place in a pagoda, in the middle of a field of chrysanthemum flowers. There is no way you will anticipate the ten-minute long fight sequence that immediately follows the\u00a0beautiful wedding. I don\u2019t know how cool one would find this but ask any Tollywood fan to list out movies with unforgettable weddings and <em>Varudu<\/em> comes first on the list.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Boys<\/em>, 2003 ( Tamil )<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1320\" height=\"743\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JsI86eP1xNk?start=18&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Director Shankar\u2019s <em>Boys<\/em> took the Tamil industry by a storm in 2003. Perhaps influenced by <em>Alaipayuthey<\/em>, Munna and Janani decide to get married in Tirupati with the support of their friends and a professor, who sing ARR\u2019s <em>Maangalyam Thandhunaneyna\u00a0<\/em>as they wish and bless them. Be it the nostalgia or Munna\u2019s dialogue that follows, the wedding scene in \u2018Boys\u2019 is hard to forget.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Vivaah<\/em>, 2006 (Hindi)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1320\" height=\"990\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9FgSOYhP7XI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Prem\u00a0brings <em>sindoor<\/em> sent by his sister-in-law\u00a0to the hospital ward where his fianc\u00e9e, Poonam, is recovering from a fire accident. Prem\u00a0declares, \u201cToday is our wedding day. Give me one gift, Poonam. Give me all your pain,\u201d and goes on to apply a streak of <em>sindoor<\/em> on her forehead. If you want to borrow material for your own wedding wows, just lift some of the beautiful lines in this scene!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Bangalore Days<\/em>, 2014 ( Malayalam)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1320\" height=\"743\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a3UNpjnYquI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In Bangalore Days, the song <em>Thudakkam Maangalyam<\/em> at the eve of the wedding between Divya and Das, kicks in the festive spirit right at the beginning of the movie and that very spirit is sustained throughout.
